MG Wales September 2021

Car Club Tours

MG Wales
6th – 10th September 2021

Travel Destinations is running a second tour of Wales for the MG Owners Club this year, due to the overwhelming demand of its July package. The new September tour will mirror the trip in July,  with a four-night tour to the Lake Country House Hotel near Llangammarch Wells, mid-Wales.

We have arranged three scenic road run taking you out to the Cambrian coast, visiting the Elan valley and Pen Y Garreg dam, as well as driving over the black mountain pass and Brecon Beacons.

The Lake Country House Hotel was recently awarded the ‘Good Hotel Guide’ Spa Hotel of the Year, so a restful stay is assured. Dinner is included each evening at the hotel in their acclaimed restaurant. This exclusive tour is strictly limited to thirty cars.

Proposed Itinerary:

Monday 6th September
Arrive at the Lake Country House Hotel from the middle of the afternoon. Relax in the comfy lounge and greet fellow MGOC members as they arrive, or take a walk through the extensive grounds of the hotel. The evening dinner at the hotel is included.

Tuesday 7th September
Today’s planned route takes you down to Llandovery, and then up to the Cambrian coast via Lampeter. Once you reach Cardigan Bay and the pretty little village of New Quay, the route then takes you back to the hotel via Aberystwyth. Get the timing right and you will see the Red Kites feeding at Rhayader as you follow the route back to the hotel. Evening dinner is provided at the hotel.
Approximate driving distance: 125 miles

Wednesday 8th September
After breakfast at the hotel head out on to a superb road used on the RAC rally for many years through the 60’s and 70’s (don’t worry it is not a gravel stage). Having tackled the Devils Staircase there is a good coffee stop in Tregaron. We then loop around to the spectacular Elan valley for a photo call at the Craig Goch dam and a tour of the Pen-Y-Garreg dam for a walk inside the long gallery. It is then back to the hotel for time to relax before dinner.
Approximate driving distance: 85 miles.

Thursday 9th September
Today it is the ‘Brecon Beacons driving route’, namely the Black mountain pass made famous by Top Gear (it is recommended to start early to avoid any traffic) This 20-mile stretch has a mixture of open corners that you can see all the way through as well as hairpin bends, as you climb up to 1600 feet above sea level. On a clear day expect spectacular views from the summit. The road loops around for more views across the Brecon Beacons on the way back to the hotel for the final evening dinner.
Approximate driving distance: 95 miles.

Friday 10th September
Enjoy one last Welsh breakfast before checking out of the hotel, saying goodbye to our friends and continuing on your journey home.
