The IMSA 6 Hours at The Glen is the third of the four Michelin Endurance Cup rounds each year and comes at a pivotal point of the season. Watkins Glen, which in the past has played host to Formula One’s United States Grand Prix, is a historic circuit well worth visiting. Located in New York state between New York City and Buffalo, it’s a circuit which always creates great racing.
Like Daytona and Sebring, it features surface characteristics not seen at any other circuit on the schedule, meaning the form book is often ripped up for this one. It’s fast flowing and unforgiving, with little to no run off area around much of the circuit, rewarding the bravest of drivers during sportscar races that feature a constant flow of traffic to navigate.
For anyone wishing to make the trip, it presents a great opportunity to explore New York State, Pennsylvania and the Canadian border by car too. The circuit is equidistant between New York City and Toronto, both incredible cities and stunning landmarks such as Niagra Falls and the Allenheny National Forest are accessible in under five hours. An extended stay prior to the race meeting, or after the track action is over, is highly recommended, especially as the weather in late June/early July is usually perfect for an early summer escape…
