FIA WEC 6 Hours of Bahrain

FIA WEC10th – 12th November 2022

At the turn of the century, the thought of major motorsport championships racing regularly in the Middle East would have seemed far fetched. But over the past two decades there has been a boom in circuit building and general interest in the sport, making the region a regular host to major international race events.

One of the many global championships that races annually in the middle east is the FIA WEC, which holds its season finale most years at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). As an event, it may not attract thousands of international race fans each year, but that shouldn’t put anyone off attending.

Motorsport in the Middle East has a very different feel. The circuits are modern, the setting is alien to those of us who live and spend most of our time in Europe and the car culture is vastly different. But it is growing, and visiting a circuit like the BIC is well worth the effort.

For spectators the views are superb at the Bahrain International Circuit, the pit straight grandstand giving a great view of the action out on track. The FIA WEC races into the night each year, making for a visual treat. The circuit looks fantastic in particular under the floodlights with its vibrant painted runoff areas; add to that a huge fireworks display mid-race and you have a gem of a meeting to attend.

Bahrain itself is a very small island, but that is an advantage if you want to add a few days to your trip, as every attraction or sight to see is commutable by hire car from your hotel in a day. There are nature reserves, water parks, huge shopping malls and even historical landmarks like the Bahrain Fort which features remains of a 16th century Portuguese fort.
